Toursim industry is an important growth point of Xiamenâs economy
In 2010, the Xiamen tourism industry will focus on leisure vacation, business convention & exhibition, and cross-Straits tourism, according to Mr. Liu Cigui, mayor of Xiamen, at a working conference on Xiamenâs tourism industry on Wednesday.
This year, the tourism industry will strive to achieve the goal of receiving 28 million tourists from home and abroad, and a total tourism revenue of 36 billion yuan ($US 5,27billion), a year-on-year increase of 12% and 11% respectively, according to the conference.
As an important port city in cross-Straits tourism, Xiamen will actively promote and open up individual visits to Taiwanâs Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu via the Xiamen port. The city also plans to further the influence of the âThree Linksâ between both sides of the Taiwan Straits in a bid to attract more Taiwan tourists to Xiamen, or travel to other parts of the mainland via Xiamen.
In addition, Xiamen will accelerate the development of cruise ships, yachts and the sailing industry, and build hotels with international standards and support the development of professional exhibition companies, said Mr. Liu.
In 2009, Xiamen has received 25.24 million tourists from home and abroad, achieving a total tourism income of 32.5 billion yuan ($US 4.76 billion), up 15% and 8% respectively, according to statistics released by the Xiamen Tourism Bureau.
